In general online business courses offer three popular kinds of degree. Each degree is rewarded after a few years of study. It is best for the average person to get a degree because they are more recognized and indicate that you have completed a program rather than few courses.

• Associates Degree in Business Administration – Basically a two year degree. Good programs will give you a grounding in business. It may not get you many jobs because it lacks the prestige of a bachelor’s. Bachelor’s degrees will usually get you more pay.

• Bachelor of Business Sciences – the most popular online business degree program. This is a three to four year degree that is designed to prepare a person for a business career. Many programs focus on specific areas in business such as healthcare, hospitality and retail.

• Bachelor of Business Administration – another bachelor’s degree in business. Generally there is no difference between it and bachelor of business sciences.

• Masters of Business Administration (MBA) – The most degree required for executive positions. It is a masters program so you will need a bachelor’s degree to qualify for it. Some MBA programs specialize in particular areas such as healthcare. May also be called a masters’ in management.

• Certificates – Some schools give certificates in specific areas. These are not degrees and will not open as many doors for you.

There are many excellent business programs online. These include those offered by traditional universities such as Penn State and for profit schools like the University of Phoenix and Capella University.

Generally, the for-profit schools like the University of Phoenix are a better choice for average people. They offer a much lower tuition and greater resources online.

Online vs. Classroom Education

If you’ve never done online education before it would be a good idea to try one course before signing up for a program. Not everybody has the discipline or drive to complete an online degree program. Working alone at home can be tough for some people.

Schools like the University of Phoenix and DeVry University which offer both online and traditional class room instruction may be best for such an individual. If you don’t like the online class you can simply transfer to a traditional classroom program.

In many cases going to a classroom with other students and interacting with a flesh and blood instructor will give you the motivation you need to complete a course.
